Running backs fly off board in Round 4 with 7 selected
Finding homes for running backs was the prevailing theme as Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft kicked off.
Seven ball-carriers were selected across a 15-pick stretch in Round 4:
Team | Player | Pick |
---|---|---|
Dolphins | Jaylen Wright - Tennessee | 120 |
Buccaneers | Bucky Irving - Oregon | 125 |
Eagles | Will Shipley - Clemson | 127 |
Bills | Ray Davis - Kentucky | 128 |
49ers | Isaac Guerendo - Louisville | 129 |
Lions | Sione Vaki - Utah | 132 |
Jets | Braelon Allen - Wisconsin | 134 |
These rookie rushers join Jonathon Brooks (46th overall to Panthers), Trey Benson (66th to Cardinals), Blake Corum (83rd to Rams), and MarShawn Lloyd (88th to Packers).
Fantasy football enthusiasts will note that none of the fourth-round running back selections entered a depth chart where the starting job appears to be available - at least not immediately.
Notably, the Dallas Cowboys didn't select a running back in the first four rounds despite entering the draft as the consensus top landing spot for a tailback. Rico Dowdle is the Cowboys' presumed starter after Tony Pollard departed in free agency, and Jerry Jones' team is reportedly in discussions to reunite with Ezekiel Elliott.
