Chiefs suffer 1st loss of season after Bills' late surge
Quarterback Josh Allen raced past defenders on fourth-and-2 for a 26-yard touchdown with 2:17 remaining to lift the Buffalo Bills to a 30-21 win against the Chiefs, handing Kansas its first loss of the season.
Terrel Bernard halted the Chiefs' final offensive possession by intercepting a pass from Patrick Mahomes to seal the win.
Allen completed 27 of 40 passes for 262 yards, two total touchdowns, and one interception in the victory.
The Bills signal-caller led the way despite key starters Keon Coleman and Dalton Kincaid sidelined for the contest.
Buffalo running back James Cook chipped in with two rushing touchdowns.
"It's another Week 11 win," Allen said postgame when asked if the victory carries any significance to the season. "Knowing how things usually play out, we'll probably see this team again at some point. We've got to get there first."
The Bills remain undefeated at home this season. They've reeled off six consecutive wins since recording back-to-back losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. Buffalo holds the tiebreaker for home-field advantage if tied with the Chiefs for the AFC's top record at the end of the regular season.
The Chiefs fell a game short of tying the franchise's longest in-season win streak. Kansas City had won 15 straight games, including postseason play, since their last defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders on Dec. 25, 2023.
Buffalo enters its bye week 9-2, while Kansas City drops to 9-1.
Mahomes threw for 196 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Noah Gray was the recipient of two the TD passes, with the other going to rookie Xavier Worthy.
The Chiefs have been involved in several close finishes throughout the season, with seven of their nine wins coming by one score.
Both defenses controlled the first three quarters of the game, forcing seven punts between the both squads.
The Bills host the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 1 for their next contest. The Chiefs will aim to bounce back against the Carolina Panthers in a road tilt next week.
