The San Francisco 49ers are missing key starters once again.

Quarterback Brock Purdy and defensive end Nick Bosa have been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers due to injuries.

Purdy missed practice Friday because of a shoulder issue. The 24-year-old signal-caller was originally considered day-to-day and was a limited participant at practice both Wednesday and Thursday. He left Thursday's session early after experiencing pain in his throwing arm.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy's shoulder pain was a "surprise" for both the player and the team, according to David Lombardi of The San Francisco Standard.

With Purdy sidelined, Brandon Allen - whose last NFL start was in 2021 - will start against the Packers. Allen has started nine games in his career, including appearances with the Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals. He has yet to attempt a pass this season with San Francisco.

Meanwhile, Bosa didn't practice this week because of hip and oblique injuries. The 2022 Defensive Player of the Year leads the team with seven sacks in 2024.

The 49ers are also in danger of missing star left tackle Trent Williams, who is currently listed as questionable after missing practice Friday due to an ankle injury.

Injuries have been a big issue for San Francisco, as the team played its first eight games without Christian McCaffrey and lost receiver Brandon Aiyuk to a season-ending knee injury in October.

The 5-5 Niners rank last in the NFC West but are only one game behind the 6-4 Arizona Cardinals, who currently lead the division. Arizona beat San Francisco 24-23 on Oct. 6.
