Hendrickson: Bengals 'no longer communicating' in contract talks

Disgruntled Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson released a statement Monday addressing his contract situation, saying the franchise isn't communicating with him as he looks for a new deal.

"No communication has taken place between my camp and the organization post-draft," Hendrickson said, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. "The offers prior to the draft did not reflect the vision we shared and were promised last offseason if I continued to play at a high level. Coaches are aware of these past conversations.

"Rather than using collaboration to get us to a point to bring me home to the team, they are no longer communicating. I have been eagerly awaiting a resolution of this situation, but that's hard to do when there is no discussion and an evident lack of interest in reaching mutual goals."

The Bengals reportedly gave Hendrickson permission to seek a trade in March while also negotiating a long-term extension with their top defender. The Indianapolis Colts were apparently one of multiple teams interested in acquiring him.

Hendrickson had already described his communication with Cincinnati as "poor" in early April.

The four-time Pro Bowler has recorded 57 sacks in 65 regular-season games since joining the Bengals in 2021. He posted an NFL-high 17.5 sacks and earned his first All-Pro berth last season.

The 30-year-old, who's coming off two straight 17-sack campaigns, has one season left on his contract after signing a one-year, $21-million extension in 2023. His market value is $31.5 million per year, according to Spotrac.
