Report: Steelers trade Minkah to Dolphins for Ramsey, Jonnu Smith
The Miami Dolphins are trading cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith, and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.
Ramsey will receive a $1.5-million raise as part of the trade, bringing his maximum 2025 compensation up to $26.6 million, according to Rapoport. Miami will reportedly pay $7 million of Ramsey's 2025 salary to facilitate the trade.
The 30-year-old Ramsey has been with the Dolphins since 2023 after he was acquired from the Los Angeles Rams for a third-round pick and tight end Hunter Long. Miami signed Ramsey to a three-year, $72.3-million contract extension last September, making him the highest-paid cornerback in the league at the time of the deal. He was put on the trade block in April and didn't attend Miami's mandatory minicamp practices.

Smith was the subject of recent trade rumors after a breakout campaign with the Dolphins last season. The 29-year-old is signing a one-year, $12-million extension with Pittsburgh, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The 28-year-old Fitzpatrick heads back to the Dolphins after they selected him in the first round of the 2018 draft. Miami traded the safety to Pittsburgh after suiting up in just 18 games for the club. He has two years remaining on a four-year, $73.61-million contract he signed in 2022.
Fitzpatrick earned three first-team All-Pro nominations during his tenure with the Steelers. His best season came in 2022 when he led the league with six interceptions. The Alabama product started all 17 contests last campaign, totaling 96 tackles, four passes defended, and one pick.
The Ramsey acquisition adds to a busy offseason for Pittsburgh. The Steelers made a splash in March, acquiring Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks. Metcalf, 27, will catch passes from 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who the club signed to a one-year deal in early June.
Miami is now in conversations with multiple teams about acquiring a tight end after trading Smith to the Steelers, sources told Pelissero. Julian Hill, Pharaoh Brown, Tanner Conner, and Hayden Rucci are the tight ends currently on the roster following Monday's trade.
