Report: Stafford dealing with aggravated disk, hopeful for Week 1
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is dealing with an aggravated disk in his back, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The signal-caller received an epidural to help him deal with the pain, Rapoport adds. Los Angeles is still hopeful he'll be ready for its season opener against the Houston Texans on Sept. 7.
Stafford hasn't participated in team drills since the start of camp and is labeled as week-to-week. He's on track to start working out this week and is expected to do on-field work in the coming days, a source told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
Jimmy Garoppolo, whom the team re-signed to a one-year deal this offseason, is Stafford's backup. Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn are the other quarterbacks on the Rams' roster.
Stafford signed a revised contract this offseason that'll pay him $84 million over the next two seasons.
The 37-year-old has earned two Pro Bowl nods during his 16-year career. He threw for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns in 16 contests last season.
