Report: Belichick bans Patriots scouts from UNC's practices
North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick has banned New England Patriots scouts from attending the Tar Heels' practices, sources told Doug Kyed and Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald.
Despite being unwelcome at the training sessions, Patriots scouts can reportedly still receive film on North Carolina football players and contact the Tar Heels' staff for information on prospects.
"Why would we let them in our home after how he's been treated since he left? We will help our players, but being treated fairly is a two-way street," a source told Kyed and Callahan.
Belichick coached the Patriots for 24 seasons, building one of the most storied dynasties in sports history and winning six Super Bowl titles alongside Tom Brady.
Although Belichick and New England announced they mutually agreed to part ways at the end of the 2023 season, Patriots owner Robert Kraft said during an October interview that he "fired" Belichick. Last year, Apple TV released a docuseries about Belichick and Brady's Patriots called "The Dynasty," which many viewed as a hit piece on Belichick, note Kyed and Callahan.
Kraft said Wednesday he wants to build a Belichick statue next to Brady's outside of Gillette Stadium.
The 73-year-old didn't coach last year and joined North Carolina this past offseason in a stunning move. The Tar Heels lost 48-14 to TCU in Belichick's debut with the team Monday.
