Report: Giants in no rush to replace Wilson with Dart
The New York Giants have no immediate plans to start rookie Jaxson Dart over Russell Wilson, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Giants aren't ruling out a change at the quarterback position eventually, but they'd prefer not to rush Dart, Schefter adds.
Calls for Dart popped up after Wilson laid an egg in his New York debut, a 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 1. The 36-year-old completed only 17 of his 37 passes for 168 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
Dart said Friday he'll be ready for whenever his opportunity comes but added that he's focused on being the "best teammate" for Wilson.
"I'm confident in myself, so whatever opportunity happens, or whatever may happen, I'm preparing for that opportunity," Dart told reporters. "I feel like I'm going to go out there and succeed anytime I'm on the field. So that's just kind of the approach that I have."
When asked about fans calling for him to start, Dart responded that he doesn't "pay attention to that stuff."
New York selected Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The rookie quarterback impressed in the preseason, leading to him being named the No. 2 signal-caller on the depth chart ahead of veteran Jameis Winston.
