Report: Cardinals expected to start Brissett as Kyler out with foot sprain
The Arizona Cardinals are expected to start Jacoby Brissett against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday as Kyler Murray continues to deal with a foot injury, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Adam Schefter.
Murray is working through a mid-foot sprain that's a version of a Lisfranc injury, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The issue could reportedly sideline Murray for more than one game.
The two-time Pro Bowler missed practice Wednesday and Thursday before returning Friday as a limited participant. The Cardinals listed Murray as questionable on their final injury report ahead of Sunday's matchup.
Murray has passed for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions while completing 68.3% of his passes through five games this season. He's also rushed for 173 yards and a score.
The 2019 first overall pick missed the first nine contests of the 2023 campaign after tearing his ACL in 2022.
Brissett will make his first start as a member of the Cardinals. The veteran passer has just one pass attempt this season. Arizona has seen a few offensive stars sidelined in recent weeks, with the club placing James Conner and Trey Benson on injured reserve.
