Ragnow comes out of retirement to rejoin Lions

Center Frank Ragnow is coming out of retirement to rejoin the Detroit Lions after announcing in June that he was stepping away from the game.

The Lions reinstated Ragnow from the reserve/retired list Wednesday, moving him to the exempt/commissioner permission list.

Ragnow spent all seven seasons of his career with the Lions and earned second-team All-Pro nods in three of the past five campaigns before walking away.

"I've tried to convince myself that I'm feeling good, but I'm not, and it's time to prioritize my health and my (family's) future," Ragnow wrote when announcing his retirement. "I have given this team everything I have, and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don't. I have to listen to my body, and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life."

The four-time Pro Bowler's return comes just before the league's deadline for reinstating retired players, as anyone on a team's reserve-retired list must be activated prior to the club's Week 13 game, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Ragnow will get his first chance to play when the Lions host the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 4, but the 29-year-old is unlikely to suit up for the contest, per Schefter. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman could potentially be back on the field for Detroit's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 14.

The Lions moved Graham Glasgow from guard to center to fill in for Ragnow this season. Glasgow has surrendered 15 pressures and one sack on 389 pass blocking snaps, per PFF.
