Vikings' Brosmer gets 1st career start vs. Seahawks with McCarthy out
Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback Max Brosmer will get his first career start Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Kevin O'Connell said Friday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
J.J. McCarthy is still in concussion protocol and has been ruled out. The former first-round pick was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday.
Brosmer was signed as an undrafted free agent in April. He's appeared in three games this season, completing five passes for 42 yards. The 24-year-old started 12 games at Minnesota in 2024, throwing for 2,828 yards with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions.
McCarthy, 22, has struggled in his first year as Minnesota's starter. Out of 34 qualifying quarterbacks, he ranks last in EPA/play and completion percentage, according to Ben Baldwin's database. This is the second time this season he's been sidelined after missing five games earlier in the year with an ankle ailment.
The Vikings are 4-7 and last in the NFC North entering Week 13.
