Report: Harbaugh visits Giants for in-person interview

The New York Giants hosted John Harbaugh for an in-person interview for their head coaching vacancy Wednesday, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

The interview marked Harbaugh's first in-person meeting with another NFL franchise since the Baltimore Ravens dismissed him Jan. 6, ending his 18-season tenure with the franchise.

The Giants have held "countless" conversations with the 63-year-old coach prior to bringing him to the team's facility, Rapoport adds. First-round quarterback Jaxson Dart was involved in Wednesday's meeting, sources told Garafolo.

New York has also reportedly requested interviews with several other candidates ahead of the meeting with Harbaugh. Kevin Stefanski, Jesse Minter, and Vance Joseph are among the prominent names linked to the Giants' search.

Harbaugh quickly became one of the hottest names in this year's coaching carousel, with his agent saying he fielded calls from seven interested NFL teams just 45 minutes following his split from the Ravens. The NFL currently has nine head coaching openings after Mike Tomlin stepped away from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday.

While there appears to be interest from both Harbaugh and the Giants on a possible connection, the Super Bowl-winning head coach has also expressed interest in the vacancies for the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, and Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

The former Ravens boss is reportedly looking for a team with a strong quarterback situation. The Giants showed encouraging signs under rookie signal-caller Dart this past season, and they boast a stout defensive front that includes Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, and Abdul Carter.

Harbaugh is one of the more accomplished coaching candidates available on the market, compiling 180 regular-season wins and a .613 winning percentage. He's also won 13 playoff games over his career.
