Report: Rodgers seriously considering return to Steelers
Aaron Rodgers is seriously considering a return to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2026 season, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Rodgers has reportedly spoken several times with new head coach Mike McCarthy since he took the job in late January and has also been in contact with wide receiver DK Metcalf, who wants the veteran signal-caller back on the team.
The 42-year-old is still undecided on whether he will return for a 22nd NFL season and plans on taking more time before coming to a decision. The pending free agent would need a new agreement with Pittsburgh if he decides to return.
McCarthy coached Rodgers for 13 seasons in Green Bay from 2006-2018. The duo won Super Bowl XLV in the 2010 season, and Rodgers claimed two of his four MVP awards during their tenure.
McCarthy was quick to praise Rodgers at his introductory press conference and quickly confirmed he'd welcome the passer back in Pittsburgh.
"I don't see why you wouldn't," McCarthy said. "I was able to sit back and watch the games. I watched most of the Pittsburgh games on TV, and I thought he was a great asset for the team."
Rodgers went 10-6 in 16 starts this season, throwing for 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Out of 30 qualifying quarterbacks in 2025, Rodgers ranked 22nd in EPA/play and 28th in success rate, according to Ben Baldwin's database.
Will Howard and Mason Rudolph are the only quarterbacks the Steelers currently have under contract for next season.
