Report: Lions trade Montgomery to Texans
The Detroit Lions are trading running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Houston will send Detroit a fourth-round and seventh-round pick, plus offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, sources told Rapoport.
Montgomery spent the last three seasons with the Lions, forming an electric backfield tandem with running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The duo was nicknamed "Sonic and Knuckles" for their contrasting styles, with Gibbs being the dynamic speedster and Montgomery a downhill rusher. Gibbs reacted to the reported trade by posting a broken heart emoji with an image of the video game characters.

Montgomery rushed for 2,506 yards and 33 touchdowns across his three years in Detroit, including a career-high 13 scores in 2023.
The Texans lacked a lead back last year due to the absence of Joe Mixon. He missed the entire season with a foot injury and his future with the team is uncertain. The leading rusher for Houston last year was rookie back Woody Marks with 703 yards.
This is the second trade the Texans made Monday after reportedly shipping offensive lineman Tytus Howard to the Cleveland Browns for a fifth-round pick.
