Despite a challenging first season at North Carolina, Bill Belichick emphasized that he's fully committed to the program in his second year and isn't considering returning to the NFL.
"I'm focused on UNC right now, absolutely," Belichick said Thursday in Ireland ahead of the Tar Heels' season opener against TCU on Saturday, according to WRAL's Brian Murphy.
"I've recruited these kids, two years with them, been with these guys. I want to help them. I had a great experience in the NFL, but I'm very happy at North Carolina. I'm excited to be there. Excited about the future of our program."
Belichick ranks second all-time in total coaching wins in NFL history with 333 and guided the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl titles over 24 years.
The Patriots and Belichick parted ways following the 2023 season, which marked New England's second consecutive losing campaign. UNC hired the future Hall of Famer in December 2024 to replace Mack Brown as coach.
Belichick's first year guiding the Tar Heels concluded with an underwhelming 4-8 record. However, North Carolina revamped its roster this offseason, loading up on freshman talent, rebuilding its quarterback room, and overhauling the offensive coaching staff.
Still, Belichick remains committed to his signature one-game-at-a-time approach, choosing not to speculate on the 2026 season's trajectory and keeping his focus squarely on the next opponent.
"We're not worried about games in November, December, October, whenever they are. When we get to them, we get to them. Right now, we're focused on TCU and getting ready for the game," Belichick said, per Murphy.
