Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is off the injury report and will start Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
Darnold missed last week's game after suffering a glute injury early in Seattle's season opener. The signal-caller was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice before returning to full participation in Thursday's and Friday's sessions.
The 29-year-old exited the Week 1 contest on the fifth play after being sacked from behind while trying to escape the pocket. Though he received good news following a CT scan, Darnold spent the night in the hospital.
"The perspective on life that I got while going into the hospital, seeing some of the people and what they're dealing with, that was eye-opening, Darnold said this week, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. "Especially in the position that I was in, worried about the injury and how long I was going to be out. It was good to get that perspective, I guess."
Darnold added that he's been "striving" to return to the field but has been taking the injury day by day.
Drew Lock filled in after Darnold left the opener, helping lead the Seahawks to a come-from-behind win over the New England Patriots. He also started in last week's 31-7 victory over the Arizona Cardinals and has thrown for 422 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions this season. Heading into Sunday, Lock's 127.3 passer rating ranks first among 31 qualifying signal-callers, according to TruMedia.
Washington is projected to start backup quarterback Marcus Mariota after Jayden Daniels left last week's game due to a dislocated elbow. The Commanders are 0-2 this season and 5-14 combined since the start of the 2025 campaign.
