Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin is considered week-to-week with a lower leg injury, the team announced Tuesday.
The club added that Ovechkin will be further evaluated Wednesday.
Ovechkin didn't return to Monday's 6-2 win over the Utah Hockey Club after a knee-on-knee collision with Jack McBain in the third period.
The sniper briefly took the ice during a game break before going to the locker room. He scored two goals in the contest.
Ovechkin leads the NHL with 15 goals this season and is 27 away from passing Wayne Gretzky for the all-time mark.
Capitals forward Tom Wilson fought McBain later in the third period.
Washington next plays Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche.
