The Chicago Blackhawks traded goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Craig Smith to the Detroit Red Wings for forward Joe Veleno, the teams announced Friday.

Mrazek has a .890 save percentage in 33 games this season. The 33-year-old is signed through 2025-26 at a $4.25-million cap hit. The Red Wings drafted Mrazek in 2010, and he played in Detroit from 2012-18.

Smith has nine goals and 16 points in 40 contests in 2024-25. The 35-year-old inked a one-year contract worth $1 million with the Blackhawks last summer and will be an unrestricted free agent after the campaign.

Veleno has tallied five goals and 10 points in 56 games this campaign after scoring a career-high 12 goals and 28 points last year. The 25-year-old is signed at a $2.275-million cap hit through 2025-26.

The Red Wings are one point out of the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
