Report: Leafs, Bruins among teams interested in Marchand
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins are among several teams hoping to talk with forward Brad Marchand when free agency opens Tuesday, TSN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Marchand is coming off a stellar playoff run with the Florida Panthers, registering 10 goals and 20 points in 23 postseason contests en route to winning his second Stanley Cup.
The 37-year-old had played his entire 16-year NHL career with the Boston Bruins before being dealt to Florida ahead of March's trade deadline. Marchand totaled 23 goals and 51 points in 71 regular-season games in 2024-25 between Boston and Florida.
The Panthers have $11 million in projected cap space, but Marchand isn't Florida's only notable pending free agent. Star defenseman Aaron Ekblad is also out of contract and set to hit the open market. The Panthers re-signed forward Sam Bennett to an eight-year deal with an $8-million cap hit Friday.
Marchand is coming off an eight-year contract signed with the Bruins in 2016 that carried a cap hit of $6.125 million.
The Halifax native has 424 goals and 980 points in 1,100 career games and 66 goals and 158 points in 180 playoff contests. Marchand has made the postseason nine straight years.
