Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell underwent successful surgery on his left hand, the team announced Sunday.

The expected recovery time for the injury is six-to-eight weeks.

Rakell, 32, exited Saturday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third period and didn't return.

The star winger was off to a hot start to begin the 2025-26 campaign, scoring three goals and adding five assists while averaging nearly 18 minutes of ice time through nine games.

As a result of the injury, the Swede is expected to miss the upcoming Global Series in Stockholm versus the Nashville Predators on Nov. 14 and 16.

Rakell was expected to be a fixture in trade rumors this season ahead of the March 6 deadline.
