The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in Game 4 on Saturday to sweep their second-round series and advance to the Eastern Conference Final.

Jackson Blake scored the winner about five minutes into overtime, netting his second of the game and fourth of the playoffs.

The Hurricanes are now 8-0 in the postseason, becoming the first team to accomplish the feat since the NHL moved to a best-of-seven format for all four rounds in 1987. The last team to start the playoffs with such dominance was the 1985 Wayne Gretzky-led Edmonton Oilers, who won their first nine games before claiming the Stanley Cup.

Carolina awaits the winner of the Montreal Canadiens-Buffalo Sabres series, which is tied 1-1. The Hurricanes reached the conference final for the third time in four years and fourth time since Rod Brind'Amour took over as head coach in 2018-19. However, they've won only one contest in Round 3 over that span.

The Hurricanes thoroughly dominated the Flyers throughout the series, outscoring them 9-4 at even strength while controlling 69.23% of expected goals, according to Natural Stat Trick. Carolina also owned a 203-120 shot advantage at five-on-five and out-chanced Philadelphia 99-53.

Carolina entered the playoffs as the top seed in the Eastern Conference, while Philadelphia qualified as the third seed in the Metropolitan Division with 15 fewer points. The Flyers snapped a five-year postseason drought and eliminated the Pittsburgh Penguins in Round 1.
