Detroit Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff noted Thursday that Dylan Larkin's limited number of acceptable trade destinations creates several hurdles to completing a deal.

"With the teams that Dylan has on his list, it's difficult to get something done in a trade like this," Horcoff said. "There's significant challenges when you're trying to put a salary like Dylan's into a team, trying to find the right pieces in return. It's difficult. How long it takes, I'm not sure, but I'm prepared to wait as long as necessary to make sure that the return we get is something that is good for the Red Wings overall."

Larkin reportedly expanded his trade list to 10 teams after initially having only three he'd approve a move to when he first requested a trade in June.

Horcoff also said he's spoken to and taken calls from teams not on Larkin's list.

The Red Wings suspended Larkin without pay on Thursday after he informed the organization he would no longer play for it.

"I gotta give Dylan a lot of credit in this as well," Horcoff said. "He came back, and he showed up to camp. Unfortunately, he got injured, but he faced (the media) in tough circumstances. He went out there for opening night. He faced the fans and still went out and played hard for us."

Horcoff added that he's open to all trade offers but hopes to get immediate help.

"I think the goal is to get players that can help us right away, but at the same time, the vision and the ultimate goal is the long-term success of the organization," Horcoff said.

"I'm open to all different kinds of deals, and really we're just trying to find something that is fair in return for someone of Dylan's caliber. He's a heck of a player on a good contract. ... I think it's important for me to be open to all areas, whether it's prospects and picks and players, but I am doing my best to try to help this group that we have here now and in the immediate future, if we can."
