Some clutch play down the stretch from Sam Burns and Chris Gotterup helped the Americans narrow the gap versus the International team to 3 after Saturday morning's four-ball session in the Presidents Cup at Medinah.
The International team looked poised to stretch their four-point lead even further late in the session, but Gotterup's hot putter and Burns' brilliant shot-making on the closing nine helped turn their matches to full-point wins for the USA.
That made the scoreline 8.5-5.5 for the International team heading to the foursomes format on Saturday afternoon. The visitors swept foursomes on Friday afternoon to build their advantage heading to the weekend.
- Match 1: Koivun/Thomas tied Lee/Kim
- Match 2: Kim/Kim win 2&1 over Clark/Morikawa
- Match 3: Gotterup/Young win 2&1 over Taylor/Conners
- Match 4: Scheffler/Burns win 2&1 over Matsuyama/Hisatsune
Play is set to resume at 2:15 p.m. ET for the afternoon session.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler as well as Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Jackson Koivun will sit out the Saturday afternoon foursomes session. Team U.S. will instead send out Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay as a pairing as well as Russell Henley and Jacob Bridgeman.
Meanwhile, for the International Team, Ryo Hisatsune and Hideki Matsuyama sub out for Adam Scott, playing with Sungjae Im, and Ryan Fox, paired with Min Woo Lee.
