Foden sent off for kicking out at Fernandes in Manchester derby

Manchester City's Phil Foden was shown a straight red card in the 23rd minute of Sunday's Manchester derby for kicking out at United captain Bruno Fernandes after the two playmakers clashed along the touchline.

Referee Michael Oliver's on-field decision was quickly confirmed by the VAR despite protests from Foden and his Manchester City teammates.

The match was goalless at the time of the incident.

Foden is only the second City player to ever be sent off in a league derby against United, following Bernardo Corradi's dismissal in 2006.
