The Arizona Diamondbacks are retaining longtime manager Torey Lovullo, they announced Thursday.
Lovullo signed a new two-year contract, a source told The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro.
Lovullo's reported new deal lines him contractually with general manager Mike Hazen. Arizona hired both before the 2017 season after the pair spent several years working together in the Boston Red Sox organization.
"He's not here because we have a relationship," Hazen said Thursday, according to Alex Weiner of AZ Sports. "This is a bottom-line business. Nobody cares about who knows who. ... He's the manager of this baseball team because he's a good baseball manager. Period."
The 61-year-old Lovullo's contract was set to expire at the end of this season. On Sunday, after the D-Backs failed to qualify for the postseason, he told reporters, "I want to be wanted."

Lovullo owns a 750-768 record over his 10 seasons as Arizona's manager, by far the longest-tenured skipper in team history. He's posted five winning seasons and led the club to an appearance in the 2023 World Series.
The 2017 NL Manager of the Year is MLB's third-longest-tenured skipper behind Kevin Cash of the Tampa Bay Rays and Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
