The Toronto Raptors inked head coach Darko Rajakovic to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Thursday.
Rajakovic has spent the past three seasons with the Raptors, posting a 101-145 record during that span. Last season, he guided Toronto to a 46-36 record, the NBA's fifth-best defense, and its first playoff berth in four years.
The Raptors were eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs by the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games.
Before joining Toronto, Rajakovic spent the previous nine seasons as an assistant coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, and Memphis Grizzlies.
"We're thrilled to extend Darko as head coach of the Toronto Raptors," general manager and executive vice president Bobby Webster said in a statement. "Darko's strong development philosophy and commitment to a team-first culture shine through on a daily basis.
"We've seen these qualities play out on the court - our team plays hard, plays together, and fights until the end. Darko knows there's more to be done, and we're looking forward to seeing the continued growth of this team."
Rajakovic's extension comes days after the Raptors reportedly landed two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers.
