TCU's Hoover will enter transfer portal
TCU quarterback Josh Hoover intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he told ESPN's Pete Thamel on Thursday.
Hoover won't play in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30, when the team is set to face USC.
He leaves the Horned Frogs after passing for 3,472 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in 2025. Hoover, who projects as one of the top quarterbacks on the market, threw for 9,629 yards across four seasons at TCU.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound passer became the Horned Frogs' starting quarterback during the 2023 campaign. He broke the school's single-season passing record in 2024 with 3,949 yards.
Despite garnering interest from the NFL, Hoover intends to use his final year of eligibility and polish his game for the next level, sources told Thamel.
Hoover joins a growing list of quarterbacks who have entered the transfer portal following the regular season. Sam Leavitt, DJ Lagway, and Dylan Raiola are among the notable signal-callers looking for new teams in 2026.
