Demond Williams announces return to Washington
The Demond Williams saga took another unexpected turn Thursday night, with the star quarterback announcing his return to Washington for his junior season.
"After thoughtful reflection with my family, I am excited to announce that I will continue my football journey at the University of Washington," Williams posted on Instagram. "I am deeply grateful to my coaches, teammates, and everyone in the program for fostering an environment where I can thrive both as an athlete and an individual. I am fully committed and focused on contributing to what we are building."
The news comes just days after Williams shocked the college football world by stating his intention to enter the transfer portal despite signing a new deal with Washington only 48 hours earlier. The contract is worth $4 million, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Washington immediately began pursuing legal avenues to challenge Williams and enforce the contract. A provision in the deal states that Washington doesn't have to enter his name into the transfer portal or assist in a move to another school.
If Williams had followed through on his decision to leave, he - or his new school - would have owed Washington the value of his contract, sources told Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.

Huskies coach Jedd Fisch followed Williams' statement with one of his own, pledging to support his quarterback as he rejoins the team.
"Demond and I have engaged in very honest and heartfelt conversations about his present and future. We both agree that the University of Washington is the best place for him to continue his academic, athletic and social development," Fisch said on X. "I appreciate Demond's statement. I support him, and we will work together to begin the process of repairing relationships and regaining the trust of the Husky community."
Williams' decision is certainly beneficial to the program, as he's one of the top returning quarterbacks in the Big Ten. He threw for 3,065 yards with 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season and rushed for 611 yards and an additional six scores.
