Report: Giants to interview ex-Cowboys coach McCarthy
The New York Giants set up an interview with former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy for their head coaching job, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
McCarthy most recently coached the Cowboys from 2020-24, but the two sides parted ways following the 2024 campaign after his contract expired. He did not coach in the NFL this past season. He posted a 49-35 record with Dallas and made three playoff appearances. However, the team went 7-10 in his final season.
The 62-year-old is one of the most veteran candidates available with 18 years of head coaching experience. Prior to his Cowboys stint, McCarthy led the Packers for 13 seasons, compiling a 125-77-2 record and winning a Super Bowl at the end of the 2010 season.
The Giants fired Brian Daboll in November. They're reportedly set to meet with former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and are rumored as a potential landing spot for John Harbaugh after the Ravens fired him Tuesday. New York apparently also requested to speak with Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.
The Giants have struggled to find stability at head coach since Tom Coughlin stepped down after the 2015 campaign. Since then, six head coaches have served the franchise in either a full-time or interim role.
