Murray: 'I feel great' learning Vikings' offense

Quarterback Kyler Murray is embracing his first training camp with the Minnesota Vikings while fighting for the starting role.

"I feel great. Really helped me going through OTAs for sure. ... Obviously, this time it's about to be real, but I truly believe that going through OTAs has prepared me for what's to come," Murray said Tuesday, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.

Murray is attempting to pick up the Vikings' offense after seven seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, who released him with $37 million guaranteed left on his contract.

"It's a reps thing," Murray said. "Continue to do it over and over again, say it over and over again. The more you do it, the more you say it, the more it comes natural, the more it comes easier. I think that's really the process for me. Once all that settles down, for me, it's just playing football.”

Head coach Kevin O'Connell declared an open competition for the No. 1 job after Murray signed in March, but O'Connell did not reveal when he planned to announce a starter. Murray appears to have a leg up on J.J. McCarthy after impressing Minnesota coaches and players in the spring.

Murray, who connected on some long touchdown passes during the first practice of camp, said he appreciates his opportunity with the Vikings.

"Just getting to touch the field again with the guys," Murray said. "Get to play the game that I love to play. Best time of year."

Star receiver Justin Jefferson has quickly gained Murray's admiration.

"Not only does he believe he's the best receiver in the league, he wants to be," Murray said of the All-Pro wideout. "From what I've seen out here, he's proved it every single day. Those are the guys you want to be around. ...

"I'm just grateful I get to throw him the ball."
