The Orlando Magic are finalizing a deal to hire San Antonio Spurs associate head coach Sean Sweeney as their new head coach, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Orlando fired Jamahl Mosley earlier in May after a disappointing first-round exit. Despite leading the series 3-1 and holding a 24-point lead in Game 6, the Detroit Pistons ultimately eliminated the Magic. Mosley coached the team for five seasons.

Joining the Spurs' staff in June 2025, Sweeney will remain with San Antonio through the end of the postseason and has overseen the team's defense during his tenure.

The 41-year-old previously served as an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks from 2021-25. He's also had stints with the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, and Brooklyn Nets since 2011.

Los Angeles Clippers assistant Jeff Van Gundy and former Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan were the other finalists for the position, sources told Charania.

Orlando has lost in the first round in three straight seasons and hasn't won a playoff series since 2010.
