Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs was one of the hottest tickets in sports, and one enthusiastic fan in particular really wanted to document the fact he scored seats to the contest.
During a heated second half, a fan interrupted the action to run on the court and snap a selfie with Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.
The fan in question was arrested and is now permanently banned from all of the league's arenas, the NBA said in a statement Thursday, per basketball insider Marc Stein. A second person was involved in the incident and also received the same punishment, the league added.
Wembanyama seemed unfazed by the incident, even offering a small smile as the fan attempted to capture the moment before security rushed him off.
"I've never been in that situation," Wembanyama said postgame. "I didn't know how to act. It really surprised me."
Identifying information about the arrested fan cannot be made public because they're a juvenile, a spokesperson for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office told Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio-Express News.
The Knicks led by six points at the time of the disruption and didn't relinquish their lead, pulling away for an eventual 10-point win to claim the series opener.
Though Wembanyama struggled down the stretch, he still put his name in the record books with an impressive statistical performance.
