Adams trade sparks minor change to Jets' Super Bowl, playoff odds

The Jets made a splash Tuesday by reportedly acquiring star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Raiders to reunite Aaron Rodgers with this former teammate, a duo that dominated for years in Green Bay.
While the sports world as a whole is buzzing about the big trade, the betting market barely reacted.
The Jets' futures odds shortened slightly after the news broke. New York's Super Bowl odds moved from +4000 to +3500, meaning its implied probability improved by only 0.4%.
Jets' futures odds
Market | Before Adams | After Adams | Implied Prob. Change |
---|---|---|---|
Super Bowl | +4000 | +3500 | 0.4% |
AFC Champ | +2000 | +1800 | 0.5% |
AFC East | +650 | +500 | 3.4% |
To Make Playoffs | +155 | +145 | 1.6% |
The Jets are 2-4 and sit two games back of the AFC East-leading Bills, who they lost to on Monday night. Their 23-20 defeat at the hands of Buffalo was their first game after firing head coach Robert Saleh.
No team has won the Super Bowl in the same season it fired its head coach.
New York entered the season with +2000 odds to win the Super Bowl, the 11th-shortest in the league. It was also +165 (37.7% implied probability) to win the AFC East and -165 (62.3% implied probability) to make the playoffs.
The addition of Adams will hopefully turn things around for Rodgers & Co. The six-time Pro Bowler will get inserted into an offense that already has plenty of talent but doesn't have the results to show for it.
Despite having Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall as weapons for Rodgers, the Jets rank 22nd in yards per game (324.3), 16th in passing yards per game (217.2), and 30th in rushing yards per game (87.2).
Adams will be ready for the Jets' Week 7 contest Sunday night against the Steelers and it shouldn't take long for him to get up to speed. He has plenty of history with Rodgers from his eight seasons with the Packers, as well as with current Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who was his OC from 2019-21.
The Jets are currently 1.5-point favorites over the Steelers.
